Watching the Bison give away another game was almost more that I could take. For all the gaudy statistics and the "desert swarm" nonsense, the Cal Poly Mustangs were clearly a beatable team and every nerve in my body is screaming that the Bison should have done just that.
Please tell me just what convinced the coaching staff that they couldn't run on the Mustangs? Clearly they could but either the staff wasn't calling for it or Stauss was audibling out of running plays all the time. And when Stauss was throwing it became clear his #1 target was Travis White. How long do you think it took for the Cal Poly coaches to tumble to that? Not very long! And I've seen all the 1 or 2 yard passing plays that I care to see for the rest of my life. When it doesn't work why does Albin keep calling it?
The defense was incredible, keeping the Bison in the game. The offense even gave up the score that lost the game, a long interception return. For that reason we are giving the Bison Defensive Player of the Game to both Matt Gorman and Isaac Snell who each made one big play after another keeping their team alive.
For the first time we didn't select an offensive player of the game, not because of the players but because of the failed coaching. If it had been their first failure of the year it wouldn't have been so bad, but the feeling here is that this is the third blown game of this season.
And you can say you read it here first, its time for Tony Stauss to hang it up and let Steve Walker get a little more experience.
There's really nothing else to say. The dome will be empty next Saturday. Oh what could have been...
