We Was Robbed

We was robbed by the officials and the Bears and we still found a way to lose. Kind of a curious statement, so I'd better explain. I am normally not one to criticize officials. I've always been one who says that if you have to rely on an officials call to win a game you may not deserve to win anyway. But I have to say it this time, we was robbed. Two critical calls, one a no call that resulted in an interception and the other a phantom fumble by Travis White resulted in a potential loss of points by the Bison and a field goal by the UNC Bears. The other thievery was by the Bears themselves. Five interceptions normally spells D-O-O-M for the team that gives up the interceptions and this time it did, with a little Bison help. Back to the officiating. The first call was on a stop and go route in the first half. The defender knowing he was beat, grabbed the receiver, pretty much in front of the official. The play resulted in a Reed Doughty interception. The fumble by Travis White was not a fumble, enough said.

That being said, I'm not sure we ever deserved to win this game, the way the Tony Stauss played. He threw five interceptions and fumbled a snap from center in a critical situation. Not exactly senior leadership. He also consistently failed to audible out of straight ahead running plays several times when NCU had the "box" loaded with 8 or 9 guys.

I'm also not sure of the value of moral victories, that's just putting a smiley face on a loss, but Steve Walkers performance was gratifying. He showed us what the Bison should have been doing all along, namely roaring up and down the field and scoring.

Vincent Jackson also showed us his greatness on a crucial kick return in the fourth quarter. Thank you Terrance Fleming. By the way why aren't you returning kicks? He was held completely in check up to that point and for that matter the rest of the game too, failing to get a reception.

So five interceptions and two bad calls later, we're lined up to kick the winning, 30 yard plus change field goal and here's where we found a way to lose. For practically the first time in 2+ years of longsnapping, Alan Woodstrom bounced one back to Walker and the rest is history.

So I could see the beginning of the end of the Tony Stauss era rapidly approaching in the fourth quarter, but I'm sure Bohl will stick with him at least for a while. Got to remember, its just a game, its just a game,. its just a game. Oh yah, we selected Kyle Steffes as the BI Offensive Player of the Game and Isaac Snell as the BI Defensive Player of the Game.
