My ears are burning and I’ll tell you why. The same question keeps filling my email box every single frickin’ day. How will the Bison do this season? My heart says 11-0 but my conscious tells me something a little different. I know that the 2004 Bison are going to be good; darn good and shouldn’t have trouble disposing of a great many DI-AA football teams. But where does the NDSU football team measure up against established DI-AA football programs? I can’t be the only one this question is nagging!! Do you and I really know for sure? Absolutely? Without a doubt? I view myself as rather confident and knowledgeable person and this question driving me absolutely bonkers. And doubt this question will be definitively answered this upcoming weekend against Valporaiso. For arguments sake, let’s say the Bison hammer the Crusaders 42-0. Does this prove anything by beating a non-scholarship program? Again for arguments sake, let’s say the Bison get beat by the Crusaders. Does this mean the Bison suck? Or does this mean Valporaiso is just that darn good? Sure everybody out in the vast Bison world can say that we beat Montana last year, but was it a fluke? Was the Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton right when he stated on a Sioux Falls radio sports show that defeating tough competition week in and week out is quite different that a one week upset? If your truly honest with yourself, this question has been nagging you too. But on the good side, it’s better being worried in the realm of DI-AA than stuck playing small time college football.
I can hear all of you… “Cut the crap and get on with telling us what is definitely going to happen this next weekend against the Crusaders of Valporaiso University!” Okay. Okay. Stop screaming…. After spending hours and hours surfing the Internet football sites, visiting multiple football chat rooms, scanning library microfiche and consulting with the great football gods…. I’ve seen the light… The headlights are staring me right in the face… It’s just like a bowling ball hitting me right in the forehead… Valporaiso is poised to welcome the Bison with a loss in their first DI-AA football contest. Too bad Valporaiso doesn’t realize that a up and coming DI-AA program has hit the scene and is going to kick some booty and take some names…. Bison 37, Crusaders 17.
