Game Of The Week.... Southern Utah (3-1) at Cal Poly (3-1) Are you ready for some Great West Conference football? GWFC play starts this week with the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah University visiting the Cal Poly Mustangs in lovely San Luis Obispo, California. Both teams are 3-1, so we can expect quite a dog fight... Ha. Ha. Ha. Just kiddin... of course. The teams have played a common opponent in Weber State. Cal Poly beat the Wildcats 17-0, while Southern Utah lost 24-13. So given the exact science of comparison scoreboarding... the Mustangs should win by 28 points. Right? Sounds flawless? Probably not, but I truly believe the Mustangs are 28 points better than the Thunderbirds as Cal Poly holds a definite advantage in every faze of this game. So expect it to be over by halftime... Cal Poly 37, Southern Utah 9.
The Truth Is....
Hey Flo... What's the 'soup-de crow'? To tell you the truth, it's what the Answer Man has been eating all this past week after picking Ball State over NDSU in the last edition of 'Game Day'. Ole' Rich has taken an email beating the past few days as every Bison fan on the face of the Earth has taken the time to send me a nasty gram. Folks, just take a deep breath... As you see, I wasn't really feeling well last week. Ya' know... a little case of the trichinosis. But don't send me any e-cards, because I'm feeling much better now.
Will September 30, 2006... be forever known as 'Let Down Saturday' in Bison lore? 'Fat-head Syndrome' can run rampant through a locker room after a big win. It's a tough disease to fight off, but treatable. The antidote is a heavy dose of reality followed by hours of game film and practice. And I'm sure Coach Bohl and his staff have been handing out medication all week, so I expect to see very little Ball State hangover this coming Saturday in Nacogdoches, Texas. The offenses for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and the Bison appear to be quite similar... no advantage. But on the defensive-side of the ball, the Bison hold a clear and distinct advantange. Not due to speed, but in execution... The Bison once again have the special teams edge, but the Jacks hold the home field intangible. Even though the forecast for Saturday calls for highs in the upper 80s, the temperature shouldn't effect the game outcome. It's not like it's below zero all summer in North Dakota... Well, one month anyway. So what's the story? What's going to happen? Will the Bison improve to 4-0? It's in the bag... Cough. Cough. North Dakota State 27, Stephen F. Austin 20.
