Game Of The Week.... Southern Utah (0-4) at UC Davis (2-3)
On the flight back from sunny California to Minneapolis on Monday, I did some 'California Dreaming' about my trip to San Luis Obispo. Other than Hertz messing up my car reservation and the Bison laying an egg, the trip was truly enjoyable. On Sunday, Jeff and I toured the Hearst Castle, drove over to the Laetitia Vineyard & Winery and did some drinking of the 'grape', and took a drive up to Morro Bay to see a few sites. As for the Bison-Mustangs game, from the very beginning of the game the Bison had NO chance to win the contest. During pre-game warmups, Jeff and I both agreed that the Bison looked sluggish and knew the team was in trouble. I'm not sure it was jet lag, but even the fastest players such as Shamen Washington and Marques Johnson appeared to be wearing a couple of lead weights on their feet instead of shoes. I called JD about two minutes into the game and told him this was going to be a blowout with the Bison on the short end. All evening the Bison lacked enthusiasm... Poor preparation? Big egos? I just don't buy into any excuse of Bison 'talent deficiency'. It's B.S. On a normal day, the Mustangs aren't 31 points better than the Bison. Even as well, as the Mustangs play... on an average fall evening, the Bison probably still lose, but only by 3-4 points. The Bison just didn't show up mentally or physically Saturday night. Let's leave it at that until next week...
If there is one game that should never be the Bison Insider 'Game of the Week' it's this contest. Davis holds vast advantage on both sides of the ball, plus have home field advantage. Special teams are about the only thing that could be considered even. The Aggies have better athletes/football players at each position, better coaches, better cheerleaders, better water people, better solid waste engineers... I'll keep the score a little close considering this is a Great West Conference game, but Davis could easily blow this game wide open and early... UC Davis 31, Southern Utah 17
