Game Of The Week.... UC Davis (2-2) at South Dakota State (2-3)
Ah yes... Let the Great West Football Conference follies begin. Here we go boys and girls!! Pull up the panties tight and let's knock some heads. Now that the Bison have gotten the cupcakes out of the way, the Bison and the "Answer Man" head to sunny California to catch some rays and saddle up some ponies. Jeff and I are catching a DC-10 for "Schwarzeneggerville" Friday moring. It should be a total gas!! No wife, no kids... but Bison football, good food, and plenty of drink. Doesn't get any better than that...
So ya want to know who's gonna win some football games, eh? Well, I'm more curious of who's gonna hang out with Southern Utah on the bottom rung of the Great West ladder after this weekend. Is it gonna be those Cardinal thrashing Aggies of UC Davis or the fluffy, loveable Bunnies from Brookings, South Dakota? Let's take a gander children. I can't bet against the SDSU defense, but I also can't bet against the Aggies offense. So we'll call it a tug-of-war on each side of the ball. SDSU gets the edge on special teams and occupies home field advantage. So this should be a golden Bunny day? Hold on to that thought, muskrat... because the "Answer Man" doesn't play by the rules. He makes the rules. Davis possesses a couple intangibles that are tough to overlook for Saturday's tilt in Brookings. Coaching and 'swagger'. Not every DI-AA team can boast that they beat Stanford in Palo Alto and head coach Bob Biggs is the one responsible... UC Davis 28, South Dakota State 24
The Truth is.... # 15 North Dakota State (4-1) at #11 Cal Poly (4-1)
It seems like every game the Bison have played this year is 'make or break'. Which is a good thing, because the bar has been raised to a world record height. Players benefit, coaches benefit and fans benefit as each entity will accept nothing less than the best. I know I won't accept mediocrity and I sincerely believe that the best coach in DI-AA football Craig Bohl will not accept an average Bison performance this Saturday in San Luis Obispo. So are the Bison on their way to another victory? Let's find out...
The forecast for Saturday's game is partly cloudy skies with temperatures approaching 70 degrees and 20% chance of precipitation. Wind? Without further information or earthquake foresight, weather is a virtual none factor. The Bison have the edge on both offense and defense, but only by the narrowest of margins. I'll give special teams to the herd, but, of course, Cal Poly has home field advantage. The home field advantage is amplified by the Bison affectiveness on the road. At times, the Bison play more like an average team away from the Fargodome. So your saying that the Mustangs have a chance? Duh! This isn't Arkansas-Monticello the Bison are playing. But then, a one point win or a 52 point win count the same in the win column... North Dakota State 21, Cal Poly 20
